Townshend Acts (1767)

The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed by the British Parliament in 1767 that imposed new taxes on goods imported into the American colonies, such as glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. These acts were named after Charles Townshend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time, who believed that the revenue generated from these taxes would help pay for the expenses of governing the colonies.
